Performance & Handling

The 2012 Buick Regal comes available in three different trim levels, with the middle tier trim-the Premium-offering multiple levels of options, as well as the ability to add a turbo-charged engine. The Base trim for the Buick Regal, as well as Premium trim levels I and II come equipped with a 2.4L ECOTEC 4-cylinder engine that produces 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. Each of these models comes equipped with an electronically-controlled six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and Driver Shift Control and offers the option to add eAssist to the engine. 2012 Regals equipped with eAssist contain a small electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, paired with the engine-improving fuel economy by an estimated 25 percent.

Available on Premium trims I and II, and standard with the Premium III and GS trims is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 220 horsepower for Turbo Premium trims and 270 for the GS trim. This engines produces 260 pound-feet and 295 pound-feet of torque for these models respectively. Turbo Premium trims offer the option of a six-speed manual transmission, which comes standard with the GS trim. Fuel economy for the 2012 Buick Regal ranges from 25 city / 26 highway MPG for models equipped with eAssist to 17 city / 26 highway for models featuring the automatic Turbo engine.

The 2012 Buick Regal adds additional performance and handling through a listing of standard features, including power steering with variable assist, four-wheel anti-lock braking system, traction control and the StabiliTrak stability control system.

Standard Options & Features

The 2012 Buick Regal is praised by reviewers for its showcase of standard luxury features, even with the Base trim model. Standard features include leather-appointed seat trim, 12-way power seats, overhead courtesy lamp and duel reading lamps, enhanced one-color display with Driver Information Center and compass display, cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, dual-zone climate control and remote keyless entry. The 2012 Regal's entertainment system comes fully equipped with an AM/FM stereo with single-disc CD and MP3 player, audio input jack, seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto tone control, speed-compensated volume and TheftLock. SiriusXM Satellite radio comes equipped standard with a free, three-month trial. The standard entertainment system also features a seven-speaker system, USB port for audio device connectivity and Bluetooth technology for cellphone connectivity.

Premium trims build on the Base model by adding a passive entry system, remote vehicle start system (requires automatic transmission), push-button start, power 12-way adjustable passenger seat, universal home remote, chrome door handles accents, rear parking assist and a 120-volt AC power outlet. Premium II steps it up with rear-seat thorax airbags, Premium Harman Kardon audio system and HID bi-xenon headlamps. Premium III adds the Regal's turbo-charged engine standard and larger 19-inch machined alloy wheels.

The GS trim sports a standard six-speed manual transmission; GS-Specific fascias and rockers; GS-specific dual exhaust; GS-specific badging; GS sport seats, steering wheel and sport pedals; Brembo front brakes; HiPer Strut front suspension; satin finish surround moldings; and rear spoiler. Additionally, an optional sunroof is available to any trim on the 2012 Buick Regal, and Premium II and higher models can pair an available upgraded Audio System with Navigation to the optional sunroof.

Safety Features

Although safety results for the 2012 Buick Regal are not yet available, the 2011 Buick Regal was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The 2012 Regal comes standard with an array of safety features, which include three-point safety belts for all seats, LATCH system for child safety seats on all rear seats, power locks, OnStar with six months of Directions and Connections Plan, theft-deterrent system, tire pressure monitor and child safety lock. The standard airbag system features dual-stage frontal and side-impact airbags, driver and right front passenger and head curtain side-impact airbags, and front and rear outboard seating position airbags.
